How to write your wordpress posts in markdown

There is a better and more convenient way of writing your wordpress posts. That is to write your posts using markdown rather using the block or classic editor.

In this article we want to look at solutions and plugins that allow us write our posts in markdown. We will look at their features and how to use them.

1. Use WP Githuber MD

This is an all-in-on WordPress Markdown Plugin that provides a variety of features such as Markdown editor, live-preivew, image-paste, HTML-to-Markdown helper, and more.

Step 1: Install it

Start by installing this plugin. From the wordpress menu in the dashboard, go to Add New Plugin and search for this plugin. Then install it. Or download it from here. Then activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ screen in WordPress.

Step 2: Use it

Go to the WP Githuber MD menu in Plugins and set your Markdown options. You can provide customizations in this screen, there a multitude of them.

Then proceed to the page for publishing a post and you will find markdown editor alongside a preview. You can now write your posts in markdown. Check the image below:

2. Use WP Markdown Editor

This plugin offers an immersive, peaceful and natural writing experience. You can also use WP Markdown Editor plugin to create a stunning dark version for your WordPress admin dashboard.

Step 2: Use it

After activation, a new row action Edit (Markdown) will be added in the post/ page table row actions. For editing any page/ post with the markdown editor, you need to click the Edit (Markdown) button in the post/ page row actions. Then you will redirect to the Markdown editor and can start editing with the markdown syntax.

3. Use WP Editor.md

WP Editor.md is a beautiful and practical Markdown document editor.

It is yet another great plugin you can use to write your posts in markdown. This plugin uses the Markdown module from WordPress Jetpack for parsing and saving content.

Step 1: Install it

To install it search for the plugin in the Add New Plugins page in your wordpress dashboard. Or download it from here. Then activate it through the ‘Plugins’ screen in WordPress admin menu.

Step 2: Use it

First if you would like to configure the plugin then head over to the Settings->Editor.MD screen. Otherwise open the post editor and start writing your content in markdown.

(d). Use Mytory Markdown

Mytory Markdown is a plugin that not only allows you write posts in markdown format but also fetch external markdown content via URL.

It is a two-in-one plugin. You can use it to write posts in markdown format or use it to fetch external markdown via URL.

Step 1: Install it

You install it from within the wordpress dashboard like other plugins, by searching for it and clicking install. Then activate. You can also install by download it from here.

Step 2: Use it

After installation , just head over to the post editing page and start writing in markdown.

4. Use Markdown Editor

Markdown Editor replaces the default WordPress editor with a Markdown editor for your posts and pages. This plugin uses the Jetpack Markdown module for converting Markdown into HTML and plays nicely with Jetpack if both plugins are installed.

There are 4 editor layouts to choose from when writing posts: default, preview, full-screen and split screen. Changes are updated automatically allowing you to preview your content as you write.

Step 1: Install it

Go to Plugins > Add New, search for this plugin. Then click install. Then activate it. You can also download it manually from here.

Step 2: Use it

Once activated, head over to the post editing page and start writing your post in markdown.
